Dr. Kyu Chae received his undergraduate and medical training in General Surgery from Seoul National University, School of Medicine. While enrolled at Seoul National, he met Ms. Heemo Seong, a scholarly woman with whom he shared a kindred spirit. They were married on November 28, 1960. Upon completing his surgical residency in 1966, Dr. Chae was recruited to come to the U.S. to practice as a surgeon. Dr. and Mrs. Chae accepted the invitation to start a new life in the U.S. After exploring a number of suburban towns to raise their children, they decided that Livingston, NJ was the best fit. Dr. and Mrs. Kyu Chae felt that Livingston was an ideal place to raise their four bright and athletic sons, John, Dave, Paul, and Mark. The Chae family resided in Livingston, NJ from 1973 to 2019. Dr. and Mrs. Kyu. Chae were married for 52 wonderful years. The matriarch and our family rock, Mrs. Heemo Chae passed away on March 28, 2012. Kyu Chae enjoyed over 50 years practicing as a surgeon. All four of the Chae sons are happily married with children. At age 87, Dr. Kyu Chae has 9 grandchildren. John, the oldest son, studied Biomedical Engineering at Duke, received a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering at Dartmouth, and completed his medical training at Rutgers School of Medicine. Dr. John Chae is Professor and Chair of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University; Dr. John Chae is a member of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), and the College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. Dr. John Chae recently completed his last term as past president of the Association of Academic Physiatrists. David, the second son is married to Helen, with whom they have had the joy of raising their children, Daniel, Maddie, and Elizabeth. Dave, an outstanding high school wrestler who placed 1st in the 1981 National Prep School Championship Tournament was a heavily recruited student athlete. Dave decided to attend Cornell where he majored in History, competed at the Divison I level in wrestling, and was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. As a senior, he was named Captain and earned 2nd Team All-Ivy League Accolades. Thereafter, Dave continued graduate studies at Loyola College, MD (MA in Education) and later completed a Master of Divinity at Talbot School of Theology; He serves as lead pastor of the Freemont Community Church (FCC) and Principal of Kimber Hill Academy, a Private Christian School of FCC. Prior to FCC, Pastor Dave served as lead pastor for nearly 13 years at GRX, a thriving multicultural worship center with locations across Southern California. Pastor Dave began his ministry service while serving as Associate Pastor alongside, Senior Pastor Dave Gibbons at New Song Church, Irvine, CA. Paul, the third son, was an outstanding wrestler recruited to wrestle at Duke in the competitive Division I Atlantic Coast Conference. Paul studied electrical engineering, wrestled all four years, and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha. Thereafter, Paul, continued his studies at the prestigious Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University. There, he met his future wife, Ellen with whom they would have two beautiful daughters, Emily and Clara. He has held C-level management positions at Anderson consulting and technology focused corporations. He served as a Vice President of Microsoft for nearly 10 years. Mark, the fourth son, attended Seton Hall University where he studied psychology. He continued graduate studies in counseling psychology at Columbia University where he earned two masters degrees (MA, EdM). Thereafter, he completed his PhD from the APA-Accredited Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program at Seton Hall University. Mark met Sung, the woman of his dreams during his first year as a doctoral student. Mark and Sung went on to get married and were blessed to have two beautiful boys, Matthew and Timothy. Dr. Chae completed a two year Postdoctoral Fellowship as a National Institute of Justice Research Fellow at Rutgers and held academic appointments as Assistant Professor at William Paterson University and Rutgers University. He also served as Associate Professor at Rutgers-School of Health Sciences. Dr. Mark Chae is Professor and Clinical Coordinator in the Counselor Education Program at Pillar College, Newark, NJ.
