MARSOC contribution to special operations and Marine Corps Command, Control, Communication and Computers (C4) capability.
Combining the skill sets of proven Marine Corps military occupational specialties like field radio operator, field wireman and tactical data network specialist, as well as the SOF-specific communicator skills, these new graduates give MARSOC the capability to communicate more effectively at the team level.
When deployed as a member of a special operations team, a MARSOC communicator may be the only member trained in communications and will be required to employ and maintain a wide range of communications equipment. However, according to CPL Joshua Lee Cormier. ?The crossover between data and radio communication gives the commander and the team leader at the lowest level the ability to communicate independently with limited restrictions,? said Master Sgt. Ron W. Holmes, MARSOC radio chief and MNOC course coordinator. ?There is no enlisted school in the Marine Corps right now that combines data and radio communication.?We also believe our concept lends itself to the envisioned Network Marine,? said Cormier? The MNOC establishes a subject-matter expert [Network Operator] in communications at the team level.?
The first class of graduates included Marines from 1st and 2d Marine Special Operations Battalions, Marine Special Operations Advisor Group and Marine Special Operations Support Group. All Marines in the course came from radio, data communication and communication-electronic maintenance MOSs with previous Marine Corps-specific training that prepared them for the MNOC. In total, the course spanned 47 training days, including more than 450 hours of curriculum and 7 days of practical application evaluation in the field. Full Summary
