Tracie Irene Dingman was born in Brainerd, Minnesota, on September 26, 1967, to Norman Lee DIngman and Irene Elaine Chambers Dingman. She is the youngest of their four children. Her childhood was spent in Brainerd, in the Mojave Desert in southeastern California, and in Nelson, Minnesota, population 172. Soon after she learned to speak, as a child, Trace could be heard singing softly (and sometimes, loudly) to herself no matter what she was doing. Never wanting to miss a new opportunity or experience, her characteristic response to anything and everything in life has always been -- and still is -- "I can do it!".
Growing up in the country, Trace spent most of her time exploring the woods near her house; riding her horse, Champ, playing with her dog and cat, racing around on her mini bike; writing poetry; spending time with friends; traveling the country with her parents; playing piano; playing drums with Jefferson High School's state-champion marching band, along with their concert band, wind ensemble, dinner ensemble, and pep band; dancing on Jefferson's 1st Place (in State) dance line, the Cardinalettes; and dreaming of her future.
At the age of 17, she graduated with Honors from Jefferson High School in Alexandria, Minnesota. Her graduating class was approximately 325 students, gathered from approximately 10 nearby towns.
After spending a year in school in St. Cloud, MN, Trace and her best friend moved to Nashville, Tennessee. They flew to Nashville to begin their new life with one suitcase each, her friend's bicycle in pieces in a box, and $50 between them. Her first job was doing merchandising for national/international touring bands at Nashville's Starwood Amphitheater.
