tessay tesfay is an immigrant who moved to america in 2015. Tesfay is looking forward to life in America. Born in 1939, in Ambo, Tesfaye was an ethnic Oromo. He did his elementary education in Ambo, and then attended the General Wingate Secondary School in Addis Ababa. He did his BA from the American University of Beirut, and an MBA and MSc in Industrial Engineering from Syracuse University.

Political career[edit]
He was a leading member of the regime of Mengistu Haile Mariam and alternate member of the Politburo of the Workers' Party of Ethiopia. Prior to his appointment as Prime Minister, Tesfaye served in various ministerial posts, successively as Acting Minister of National Resources Development, Minister of Industry, Finance, and Foreign Affairs; he also served as Deputy Prime Minister of the People's Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. He was the member of Mengistu’s civilian high-level officials with no blood on his hand. He was a technocrat and had no say on Mengistu’s monumental decision such as the infamous collectivization program of the mid-80s which uprooted thousands peasants from the northern part of the country and resettled them in the southern and western part of Ethiopia. Tesfaye Dinka is considered by many to have been a moderate member of the Mengistu regime, and part of the faction of government officials who advised Mengistu to negotiate with the Eritrean People's Liberation Front (EPLF) and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF).

In the last days of Mengistu's rule, he was appointed Prime Minister. He led the government delegation to the abortive London peace conference of 27 May 1991, which was intended to broker an end to the Ethiopian Civil War. Other attendees included Isaias Afwerki who led the EPLF, Meles Zenawi the leader of the TPLF, and Lencho Letta the deputy secretary general of the Oromo Liberation Front. US Assistant Secretary of State Herman J. Cohen served as mediator. Ostensibly, the conference was supposed to explore ways to set up a transitional government in Ethiopia, but it was overtaken by events before its formal start. The talks had yet to get under way when Cohen received a message claiming that Lieutenant General Tesfaye Gebre Kidan, acting President of Ethiopia, had lost control of the government's remaining armed units and Addis Ababa was threatened with a complete breakdown of law and order. To prevent uncontrolled destruction and looting, Cohen recommended that EPRDF forces immediately move into Addis Ababa and establish control. Although Tesfaye Dinka strenuously objected, he spoke from a position of weakness and could not prevail. He and the government delegation publicly stated that they will boycott the meeting, and thus the London conference continued the next day without the participation of the government delegation. [1]

Post 1991 Revolution[edit]
Tesfaye worked in the 1990s for the World Bank and other agencies. He lived for years in the U.S. and was a Senior Advisor to the Global Coalition for Africa, an organization dedicated to the economic development of Africa. Tesfaye died on 6 December 2016 in Fairfax, Virginia, aged 77, and was survived by his wife, four children and four grandchildren.[2]
Tesfaye began competing in foreign road races in 2011 and placed sixth at that year's Singelloop Utrecht. He set a half marathon best of 60:32 minutes to place third at the Nice Half Marathon and also took third at the Buenos Aires Half Marathon. In 2013, a fifth-place finish at the Jan Meda International earned him selection for Ethiopia at the 2013 IAAF World Cross Country Championships. On his international debut he finished 14th and helped Ethiopia to the team title. He ran in several European road races later that year but failed to place in the top three at all but the Corrida de Langueux,[4] where he was the winner.[5] His 2014 was low-key, as he neither improved his bests nor had a podium finish.[4]

The 2015 marked a breakthrough for Tesfaye as he won his marathon debut with a run of 2:09:46 hours at the Mumbai Marathon.[6] He was reselected for the 2015 IAAF World Cross Country Championships, but failed to build on his previous success, ending in 26th place.[7] He ran in two further marathons that year, taking eighth at the high-profile Hamburg Marathon (2:10:49) and the runner-up spot and the lower level Hengshui Lake International Marathon (2:10:00).[4]

The 2016 season marked a sudden improvement for Tesfaye's running. Opening at the Dubai Marathon, he led in a very fast-paced race and out-sprinted defending champion Lemi Berhanu Hayle in the final section to win 2:04:24 hours. This was one second off the course record and represented a personal best by over five minutes.[8][9] The time moved him into ninth place on the all-time marathon lists and third among Ethiopians, after Dubai course record holder Ayele Abshero and former world record holder Haile Gebrselassie.[10] He continued his winning ways at the Hamburg Marathon that April, beating Philemon Rono with another quick run of 2:06:58 hours.[11]

2015 World Cross Country ChampionshipsTesfaye Gebre Kidan Geletu (c. 1935 – 2 June 2004) was an Ethiopian general who was President of Ethiopia for one week in late May 1991.

Prior to joining the Holetta Military Academy,Tesfaye took a one year teacher training course to become an elementary school teacher. After completing his training, he was assigned to Gamo Gofa province. Because of less pay and bad living condition, he left his teaching job to join the Holetta Military Academy. At the academy he met Mengistu Haile Mariam; according to Gebru Tareke, along with Legesse Asfaw and Gebreyes Wolde Hana Tesfaye was part of Mengistu's inner circle, his "pals Mengistu knew more intimately in less pressing times, men who played and drank with him and stood by him during the bloody factional days of the Derg."[1] While a colonel, Tesfaye was a member of the Derg, the military committee which seized power from Emperor Haile Selassie, and which would later order the executions of his officials and allegedly the murder of the deposed Emperor himself. He had military successes in Somalia and Eritrea, notably as commander of the forces around Jijiga during the Ogaden War.

Elevated to the rank of Lt. General, Tesfaye Gebre Kidan went on to serve as the longtime Minister of Defence, then on 14 May 1988 was made military governor and general commander in Eritrea. He was recalled to Addis Ababa from Asmara to serve on the military tribunal, which tried the high-ranking officers who had tried to depose President Mengistu in 1989 following the decisive defeat at the Battle of Shire.

He was appointed as Vice President and minister of defense of the People's Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in April 1991[2]. He became acting president on 21 May 1991 when Mengistu fled as Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) forces closed in on the capital.[3]

Tesfaye took over a regime in a state of utter collapse. He only ruled for a week before the EPRDF marched into Addis Ababa and seized power on 27 May 1991.[4] "Government troops turned on one another," read one contemporary account. "Soldiers wantonly looted state property." Tesfaye informed the U.S. chargé d'affaires in Addis Ababa that he could no longer control the situation, then after announcing a unilateral cease-fire he fled for the safety of the Italian Embassy.[5] The General remained a virtual prisoner in the Embassy. At the embassy he suffered a stroke and was wheelchair bound. He constantly clashed with his colleague Berhanu Bayeh by constantly accusing him of being an enemy sympathizer (because Berhanu's wife was of Eritrean origin). During a physical brawl with Berhanu, Tesfaye was accidentally hurt on his had from a glass cut and bled profusely. On 2 June 2004, he was taken to Menelik II Hospital where he was pronounced dead. co[6] It is believed that the colleague in question was Foreign Minister Birhanu Bayeh, who had accompanied him into the Embassy 13 years earlier.[7] He was known to be a carefree individual who drank and had a good time with his friends from old days. He couldn't stand attending meetings that took long hours. Tesfa   Full Summary
