Composer, conductor, teacher, and member of the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. He wrote over 400 pieces that were comprised of five operas, six symphonies, eight string quartets, 11 concerti, and many other works. He established the Seventh Army Symphony Orchestra while serving in the U.S. Army from 1950 until 1952. He was awarded the Guggenheim Fellowship in 1984. He had previously been a MacDowell Fellow from 1954 until 1963. He was born to Hugo Chaim Adler, a cantor and composer. His Jewish family was forced to escape Germany in 1939 and immigrated to the United States. He married Dr. Emily Freeman-Brown.He and Yo-Yo Ma, along with being contemporaries, were both inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame, Ma in 2007 and Adler in 2008. Full Summary
