Robert Knobler was born in 1948. He currently works in Fort Washington and lives in neighboring Ambler, PA, since 1989. Robert Knobler attended Brooklyn Technical High School in Brooklyn, NY (1962-1966), followed by City College of New York in New York, NY, (1966-1969), where he earned a Bachelor of Science (BS), with Honors in Biology. He completed the MD, PhD Program at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, College of Medicine (1969-1975). This was followed by internship (1975-1976) and residency in Neurology (1976-1979, serving as Chief Resident) at Kings County Hospital Center. This was followed by postdoctoral training and a Junior Faculty Appointment at Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, La Jolla, California (1979-1984). He became Board Certified in Adult Neurology in 1984 and joined the Faculty in the Department of Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University in 1984, where he established the Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Clinical Center in 1984 and the Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Clinic in 1986. He established the Knobler Institute of Neurologic Disease (KIND Clinic) in 1998.
Dr. Knobler has worked in laboratory research, where he studied the formation of myelin sheaths, and ways in which it can be damaged through disease. He has studied clinical research where he pioneered development of the first of the current era of treatments for multiple sclerosis. He continues to practice adult neurology, with a special focus on MS and the pain disorders of brachial plexus traction injury/neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome, CRPS/RSD and painful complications of cancer. Dr. Knobler has provided consultation on patients from many locations around the country and the world over the years.
