Kathy Lyda is the founder and serves as Head of School at E.A. Young Academy. E.A. Young Academy began in 2012 with six gifted and talented 6th graders as a grass roots effort initiated by gifted and talented advocates, teachers, and parents of the gifted. Ms. Lyda possesses an intrinsic, passionate commitment to gifted, talented, and high-ability scholar education which began through involvement with her own gifted and talented daughters. She now regularly presents and trains teachers, administrators and parents on the unique needs and programmatic considerations relating to the gifted and talented population of learners. Her current research projects focus on equity within gifted education, prosocial skill training and non-zero-sum game play impacting moral reasoning skills.Previously, Ms. Lyda served as the President of Camenae Group, Inc. and was responsible for the oversight, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance of the continuing education program and strategic plan. Founded in 1998 by Ms. Lyda, the Camenae Group, Inc. was a full-service health promotion partner committed to positively impacting the quality and economy of continuing education initiatives. Ms. Lyda developed and implemented multiple continuing education initiatives, award-winning health education curricula, and models which have been adopted by local independent school districts and voluntary agencies. Prior to founding the Camenae Group, Inc, Ms. Lyda was responsible for the management of the Health Promotion Dept., serving more than 23,000 members at Americaid Community Care, a privatized Medicaid provider. Ms. Lyda’s earlier work experiences include serving as Education Manager for cancer survivors, caregivers, boards, vendors, and voluntary agencies at MD Anderson Cancer Network, Cancer Education Specialist and Continuing Medical Education Coordinator with Harris Methodist Health Plan, Program Director for the American Heart Association and Substance Abuse Counselor at Schick Shadel Hospital in Fort Worth. In recognition of her work both professionally and through volunteering, Ms. Lyda has been named the Texas Association for Gifted and Talented Parent of the Gifted Award for the Piney Woods/Prairie Area, the American Cancer Society Caring Spirit Award, the American Cancer Society Exemplary Service Award, Americaid Community Care – Outstanding Associate Award, the MD Anderson Cancer Network President’s Award, The Meadows Foundation Best New Project Award, and the University of North Texas Outstanding Achievement in Health Promotion Award.
