John knew he would end up in restaurants when his mom taught him how to bake in the 6th grade! After graduating high school, he took a job as a line cook for Stouffer Restaurants and Hotels in his home town of Baltimore, Maryland. John learned every position in the kitchen, and over the course of three years, worked his way up to Executive Chef of the companies highest sales generating property. After a successful10 year career with Stouffers, John made the decision to transition from kitchen operations to front of house operations. In 1995, he took a job with an up and coming restaurant company that had just 7 locations at the time with a gigantic made from scratch menu. The name of the company was The Cheesecake Factory.
The 14 years John spent with The Cheesecake Factory was one of the highlights of his career. He opened over 30 restaurants in a leadership role, and helped develop and evolve the Grand Lux Café Concept, opening 11 of the 14 locations. He received the Presidents Circle award for operational excellence 10 consecutive years, and was involved in the development and implementation of some of the best operating systems in the world.
After the birth of his daughter Chloe, moving to Southern California became a priority. John took a Director of Operations position with Harry and Peter Morton, working closely with Harry to build the Pink Taco and Viper Room brands. From there, he directed the Simms Restaurant Group based out of Manhattan Beach. The multi unit and multi concept experience he gained with these two groups led him to Vice President Roles with Blue Plate Restaurants out of Santa Monica, and the Lore Group which featured a growth brand called Rock & Reillys.
John’s desire to continue to contribute to the industry led him to his restaurant consulting company, JJC Advisory Group. Highlights of his consulting work were the co creation of Fishbar in Manhattan Beach, Co creation of a concept for actress Jessica Biel called Au Fudge, and co creation of The Local Kitchen in Old Town Torrance.
As a leader, John believes that people development and strong operational results go hand in hand. Motivating and inspiring people to perform at a level beyond what they believe they are capable of is what he does best. He achieves results through a hands-on management style, and development driven communication. John brings over 30 years of proven success in achievement of operational goals to the group. He has been recognized by his peers for excellence in systems implementation, utilizing best practices, and achieving sales and revenue goals with consistency.
