James Kelly NIx, known as J. Kelly Nix (October 1, 1934 - February 4, 2020), was a native of Oak Grove in West Carroll Parish in northeastern Louisiana. He was a real estate businessman in Baton Rouge and former politician who served from 1976 to 1984 as the Louisiana, then-elected state superintendent of education. From his first marriage in 1958 to the former Martha Jo'Ann McCurdy, he had four children, two of whom, Emily Celeste Nix, formerly Emily Ard, and Jennifer Kathleen Nix Marionneaux, are still living. Two others, Kevin Patrick Nix and Elizabeth Ann Nix (formerly Elizabeth Bond), are deceased. From his second marriage to the former Pamela Theresa Gros Babin, who survives him, he acquired a step-daughter, Denise T. Babin Scherer. He was a Democrat, a Christian (Episcopalian), and a Caucasian. He is interred along with his parents, T. J. Nix (1904-1971) and Lillian O. Nix (1905-1973), at Oak Grove Cemetery. Full Summary
