From 1991 to 1996 he helped conduct the fracture trials with Fosamax at Merck, before returning to the SF Bay Area,heading up endocrine clinical research at Roche, working 1st on PTHrP before leading the phase 3 Boniva program. He left Roche and entered the world of biotech in 2000, leading clinical development at Calydon, Geron, Metabolex, Virobay, and currently at Ascendis Pharma. Since 1997 he has been Adj. Clinical Professor of Endocrinology, Gerontology &Metabolism at Stanford University School of Medicine, where he follows more than 1600 patients in the Osteoporosis & Metabolic Bone Disease Clinic. Since 2013 he has also served as the Chair of the Medical & Scientific Advisory Board at American Bone Health, a non-profit whose goal is to improve bone health and freedom from fractures in the population.
