Charles Leeah taught a First Methodist Church Sunday School class during my freshman-junior years in Dayton High School. He had the marvelous skill of talking about Christianity and relating Christ and the disciples to contemporary life. One well-remembered event was about the space race. Dayton, TX was on the highway 90 transportation route from a California manufacturing plant to Cape Canavaral, Florida that trucks carried the rockets which were the beginning of US space explorattion. We’d look outside the church window at one of those rockets parked while drivers ate lunch at the Rainbow Cafe. Just imagine, Charles would describe, that beneath the skin of that transport lies a rocket ship. That rocket ship will be carrying astronauts into outer space. And that too (outer space) is a part of God’s creation. In other words, no matter how far we may go, we’re still within God’s love and protection.
