Carol Weisend was born in 1956 in Encino, CA. Carol currently lives in Austin, TX. Carol Weisend attended San Luis Obispo High School in San Luis Obispo, CA and graduated class of 1974. After high school, she went to Santa Monic College, Immaculate Heart College, Pierce College, and Chapman Univ, Ontario, CA. Carol Noel Weisend married Brian Noel Smith in 1983. Brian and Carol met in 1981. She received a Master's degree in Communication from CSUN in 1986 and, as a graduate student, taught the Oral Interpretation of Literature while pregnant with her first child. During pregnancy, Carol had three gran mal seizures in a 24 hour period and was in Northridge Hospital's Intensive Care Unit for six days where she was given the antiepileptic drug, Dilantin, which can and does cause mid-line defect, cleft palette and brain damage to the unborn child. Northridge Hospital had never seen her particular condition, so they sent her to UCLA's High Risk Pregnancy Unit. Her wonderful Aunt, who was the head nurse of pediatrics at Saint John's Hospital, told Carol's father that she had seen this condition about three times in her long career. She assured Carol's father that she and the baby would be "just fine," and they were. Carol had to quit CSUN'S graduate school for a year because her condition necessitated lots of rest. The UCLA neurologists put Carol on Phenobarbital, which is a depressant. She was already depressed enough. Her fellow graduate students told Carol that she wouldn't be back to get that Master's degree. She was back and at her graduation, there is a darling picture of Carol in her Master's Cap and Gown, holding her 16 month old daughter, Elizabeth Noel Smith. She was allowed to stay home with her baby for one whole year but one day, Brian, her incredibly intelligent and quite the geniuis husband came home from work and said: "Get to work." Carol was working the next day. Kelly Girl needed her, so, the next day, she saluted her husband and skipped off to a temporary job. Brian was and is a wonderful father and grandfather and loved and respected by his children. He is a scientist by education, an artist by natural talent, and can build a house because he has like his father before him. His uncle on his mother's side was Roland Barber, the author of, "The Night They Raided Minskey's," "Somebody Up There Likes Me," and "Harpo Speaks." Brian and Carol remain good friends. Carol eventually was hired by Rockwell International as a Financial Analyst for the Atlas Engine Program. She worked for a marvelous man, named James Musilek from 1987 to 1993. Jim knew that Carol really wasn't cut out for the aerospace industry, (she burst into tears when the pretty art work in the long hallways was replaced with ugly pictures of engines and rockets and stuff like that.) He allowed Carol to leave her post early for two years while she earned her first teaching credential at Chapman College in Palmdale, CA. At this point, Carol, Brian and Elizabeth moved into the first home Carol owned with Brian. All three would drive up from Canoga Park each weekend to watch their home in Quartz Hill as it went from dirt to foundation, to dry wall, and everything else that makes a house. She met two lifelong friends while working for Jim Musilek: Scott Beaupre and Paul Mickelson. Paul's mother was the nurse who was killed at Olive View Hospital during the Sylmar Earthquake in 1971. Sadly, Scott committed suicide in 2012. Carol wanted to join him. In 1994, Carol and Brian welcomed their second child, Daniel Patrick Noel Smith. Both children inherited their father's artistic gifts and their uncle and mother's talent in music. She has two teaching credentials and has taught grades 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,11, and 12th grade English. She has two adult children and a 3 year old grandson. She is NOT on Linkedin. Carol is a writer, inventor and a teacher of many subjects. She is a very private person.
