Delaware is the second smallest state in the US. It is the sixth least populated state in the country, with only 989,948 residents as of 2020. Wilmington is its largest city, while Dover is its state capital. Delaware has a few nicknames, including "The Diamond State," which was bestowed by Thomas Jefferson on the state due to the strategic location of the area on the Eastern Seaboard.
